Warnings and Notices
High Surf Advisory
Statement as of 3:56 AM EST on December 01, 2008
... High surf advisory remains in effect until 10 PM EST this
evening...
Low pressure moving into eastern Canada and high pressure
building in from the southwest will produce strong southwest winds
along the coast today. The resulting winds will bring high seas
with breakers of 8 to 10 feet expected in the surf zone along Core
Banks and the Outer Banks south of Cape Hatteras.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.
Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 10:25 AM EST on December 01, 2008
... Gusty winds expected across eastern North Carolina today...
Cold air aloft moving into the area in conjunction with strong surface
heating will lead to unstable conditions which will allow stronger
winds from aloft to mix down to the surface this afternoon. Windy
conditions are expected area wide with sustained southwest to west
winds of 20 to 30 mph with a few higher gusts of 40 to 45 mph
possible. Light weight objects like garbage cans and lawn
furniture left outdoors could be blown about. Persons driving high
profile vehicles should exercise caution.
The winds will begin to subside with the loss of heating after 5 PM.
